The club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 4 and 18 to compete in our Club, East Lothian, and East of Scotland leagues and competitions. All coaching is by qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.

Our club Welfare Officer, Fiona Masters, is responsible for ensuring that our child protection policy is implemented, and can be contacted on 01368 865399 should you have any concerns. We welcome parents to all training and competitions and value your support.

At Dunbar tennis Club we offer coaching for all standards of adult and junior players either in individual sessions, pairs, small group or large groups, using coaches and tennis assistants who are First Aid trained, disclosure checked and have full insurance indemnity. These can be ‘one-off’ lessons or regular structured coaching for those wishing to aim at higher performance levels.

SAFETY CHECK
Remember to tell us on the form if your child is being picked up or will make their own way home. Please dress warmly and make sure that your child has appropriate tennis footwear and if they bring their own racket it is the correct size (ask the coaches if unsure). All tennis equipment is supplied

WEATHER CHECK
The cost of courses has taken account of potential bad weather. In the event of bad weather no refunds will be given unless more than 50% of the course has been cancelled. In the event of a bad weather enquiry please phone Hugh 07806935706, about 45 minutes before the start of the class.

MINI RED TENNIS
Sessions aimed at children from 5 to 7 year olds. Play takes place on a small court area using low bouncing mini tennis Red balls. In these six sessions the main aim to get players hitting good consistent shots and the goal is for players to easily hold a rally of 6 or more shots. We will mainly be working on developing good hand eye coordination, the correct grip, and the movement needed to get into a good hitting position. We will concentrate on the forehand but will also do a little bit on the backhand. The players will be playing in mini-tennis courts and using the red ball in all the sessions This is a softer and slower ball that is easier for the players to hit. The sessions are important in developing skills but to really develop players need to practice. Simple rallying, trying to always get the ball ‘over and in’ (counting the longest rally), and short games are ideal. Please try to always use the Red ball (never full yellow balls at this age) – ask Hugh about buying these balls or any other questions you might have about the coaching.

MINI ORANGE TENNIS
Sessions aimed at 7-9 year olds. Play takes place on an adapted full size tennis court using low bouncing, slower mini tennis Orange balls. The focus of these sessions will be…movement! We will concentrate on the movement needed to get into a good hitting position. We will also begin to look at moving to different grips to produce more topspin. We hope to gradually refine skills as the players begin to move to playing and competing on the larger court area.

TENNIS GREEN
Sessions for 10 year olds and older juniors. Play takes place on a full size tennis court using Green tennis balls. Skills already learnt are further refined with the children being made ready to be able to play and compete at Tennis and obtain an LTA Rating. However we know that not everyone will want to play in competitions, so we also provide opportunities for juniors of varying standards to come along and play in a more easy going coaching environment in this session.
